I’ve had a career in design, first graphic design and then user experience design. In my day job, I shape digital experiences and create solutions for others. But somewhere along the way, I had put away the part of me that loved to create just for the joy of it—the artist inside me. Recently, I felt the pull to bring that part of myself back to life, and I decided to take on a new challenge: building an art business from the ground up.

While gathering pattern inspiration for future concepts, I came across Pansies in Washington by Alma Thomas in the collection of the National Gallery of Art. At first, it was the rhythm of the marks and the concentric structure that caught my eye. But as I read more about Thomas and watched the Gallery’s short video about her life, my interest deepened.

Wing & Frond began as an exploration of harmony, a lively dialogue between organic movement and architectural discipline. Instead of embracing the expected flourishes of traditional florals, this design cultivates a botanical rhythm that’s as intentional and directional as it is grounded in geometry.

The word architectural comes up often in interior design, especially when describing wallpaper and other surface elements. It’s widely used, but not especially easy to define. In practice, it seems less about style and more about describing the intended role a design plays within a space.
