Wing & Frond: Inspired as Architectural Botanical Wallpaper

DESIGN INTENT

The underlying framework of Wing & Frond is architectural. The botanicals are not scattered; they are organized. The eye moves vertically and diagonally through the repeat, creating a sense of quiet order.

This tension between softness and structure is at the heart of my approach as a surface pattern designer. I’m drawn to patterns that feel composed, not merely decorative. Designs that integrate seamlessly into their environment, rather than simply sitting atop it.

COLOR DIRECTION

The debut colorway brings depth and warmth, tempered by a sense of restraint. This palette is made for layered, modern interiors and plays beautifully with natural textures—think wood, linen, and stone.

Looking ahead, I imagine future color explorations that soften value contrasts for minimal spaces, or deepen the palette for those daring, dramatic moments.

APPLICATION POTENTIAL

Although developed as a wallpaper concept, Wing & Frond is designed as a scalable pattern system suitable for:

  • Wallpaper collections

  • Coordinating fabric

  • Stationery suites

  • Home textiles

The repeat structure is designed to welcome coordinated companions and secondary patterns, making Wing & Frond a natural fit for licensing partners in search of cohesive, versatile collections.
